Social media marketing & mobile advertising in 2009
Posted by: Megan Archer, Marketing Coordinator
Many organizations will be more accepting about implementing a social media strategy in 2009 than ever before. The driving factor? Tight budgets that are making cost-effective marketing channels very appealing. Plus, many are pleased to find that social media marketing can provide some really positive results.
Having a company profile on Facebook might just become more of a standard in the coming year. While you might not think your target audience matches up with Facebook, it’s a way to test the waters – a way to engage socially and open up to feedback about your company.
I predict many organizations will take advantage of social media through mobile advertising. Think about how many text messages do you receive that you don’t read? I know I read all of mine! MMS/SMS marketing is a personal link between you and your consumer. And it doesn’t stop there; recently Google announced it has started to show text and image ads on iPhones, the G1 and other mobiles capable of Web browsing. Google is also making it easy for the advertisers. The same ad format that is used for a traditional desktop or laptop is used in mobile PPC ads.
The catch? Creating landing pages that render properly on mobile devices. But I don’t think this will be too much of a hurdle. The real key is reaching your consumer at the right time and providing them with the right incentives. The mobile market is ready and waiting to be “tapped,” with 254 million U.S. mobile subscribers (according to CTIA.org). Will you be a mobile marketing leader in 2009 or just hang it up?
