It is a smart move by Twitter. Making content-based search results pages crawlable would give twitter more exposure and edge over FB and G+.

Comment on Setting goals for a search engine marketing (SEM) program by @SearchDecoder

I am glad you pointed out the importance of SEM goal setting. Every online business has to have goals. Period.

I guarantee you that close to 90% of small businesses out there set up their websites without any goals in mind. The 10% that did identify their goals are ahead of the pack.

My marketing philosophy is simple and effective, yet rarely followed by SEM practitioners: Strategy Drives Tactics. Goals Drive Performance.

It is not the other way around. Tactics do not strategy and performance does not drive goals. It is very important that you are serious about your goals, and then you align your strategy and tactics to reach them. SEM is not much different from any other successful business venture or marketing program – you need goals!

Here is my take on SEM goal setting:

Maybe I'm just stubborn and old school, but all the advances with Google Wallet and the various easy to do bank transfer/check deposit apps are rather unsettling.

I loathe going to the bank, but my smartphone already has too much information, too much power.

Thanks for a great question, Adam! Creating value for prospects and customers is certainly more complex than offering free stuff. When targeting key audiences, we consider their position in the sales cycle to determine how we'll nurture them. Sometimes, if the prospects are at various points in the purchase process, we provide multiple offers in one message. That way, users can choose what they need - whether it's to sign up for tips that solve their particular pain points, to download a catalog and evaluate options or to request contact information from a sales rep.

At 90octane, getting to know the target audience to determine the right offers takes on many forms - from research and personas to strategic meetings with our clients' marketing teams and sales reps.

I agree completely with your post. Sending generic emails will make you seem like a spammer and people will opt out. Taking the time to target your emails will create trust and build relationships with those in your target audience.

However, can you give some advice on how to actually go about targeting your audience and what you can do to reach them besides offering free stuff?

Comment on Can Nonprofits Compete in a Capitalist Society? by brucep

Your point of view is interesting however, I do not agree with most points.

Salary
If one is driven by a high salary then working for the collective greater good's interests over their own seems a poor fit.

Competition
There is plenty of competition to solve social needs and the most creative new wave of social entrepreneurs is going to cause radical changes along with the new improved economic model of the GPI

Capital
the GDP that keeps the greed is good score is failing and along with its mal-distribution of wealth is in decline soon to be modified into the new improved GPI

I do not understand why non profits would need to be more like the entity that has caused, feeds & perpetuates ills of social dilemma; do you disagree?
